Honourable Ossy Prestige Empowerment Programme

Hon. Ossy prestige, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), member of the Federal House of Representatives for Aba North and South Federal Constituency is a man of the people and of the moment.

Not only that he loves the people of his constituency but that the people clamour for him and love him too. Hon. Prestige has done for the people what his predecessors in his exalted office were unable to do for the people. His poverty eradication programme speaks for itself. His rural development and rural road maintenance initiatives are unique and one in town.

No wonder today, Hon. Ossy Prestige is a sine-qua-non to Aba people and Abia politics. As part of his 2016 constituency project, Hon. Prestige distributed “keke-napepe”, motor cycles, electricity generating sets, grinding machines, sewing machines, hair dressing dryers etc to the people of his Federal Constituency.

In 2017, Hon. Ossy Prestige is partnering with the Federal Government National Directorate of Employment to train the unemployed young men and women from his Federal Constituency of Aba North and South in skill acquisition. In the thinking of Hon. Ossy Prestige, instead of giving people a token of money, let them be trained in any skill of work so as to create employment for themselves and others.

So at the National Directorate of Employment premises opposite Fire Service Aba, about hundred young men and women were attending a 5-day workshop which started on Monday 20th February and will end on the 24th February 2017.

The two phase training was on Catering/Confectionary, Cosmetology and Basic Business Training (BBT) otherwise known as Entrepreneurship. Other phases of the programme which will be held in due course include Computer Operations/Maintenance, Hair Dressing, G.S.M Maintenance, Photo/Video Recording, Interior Decoration, Electrical Installation and Plumbing.

The Director of the Centre, Mr. Steve Ogwumike representing Lady Buchi Ojei, the State Co-ordinator of National Directorate of Employment Abia State while kicking off the programme for the participants, thanked Hon. Ossy Prestige for his ability to initiate this programme for the youths of his Federal Constituency in conjunction with the Federal Government. The skill acquisition project will at the end of the programme, help the trainees become men and women of themselves and employers of labour as their raw ingenuity would be galvanized and harnessed for proper utilization. He called on other colleagues of Hon. Ossy Prestige in the Legislature to borrow a leaf from the one-man riot squad.

Hon. George Ezikpe Okiyi, the Director General of Hon Prestige Campaign Organization who represented Hon. Prestige said the programme would enable the participants to be fishers themselves instead of waiting for fish to be given to them. As this is February, at the rate of One Hundred (100) persons per phase of the programme, by the time the year ends, many people would be beneficiaries. He assured that the mustard seed called token sum of money for the take off fund for the trainees venture at the last would eventually grow into an Iroko venture.

Hon. Ezikpe Okiyi asked the people of the Federal Constituency to compare the present Representative with His predecessors who were only interested in pocketing money meant for the people. Asked why the turn of events, Hon. Ezikpe quoted the Bible, “When the righteous are in power, the people of God rejoice” (Proverbs 29:2).

In the business department, the participants were being taught how to manage their informal skills. The Catering and Confectionary class was where the participants were being taught how to bake “chin chin”, bread, cake among others. And in the Cosmetology class was where the trainees are taught how to make soaps, antiseptics, etc. Some of the participants who spoke namely Inyama Chima, Obiageri Peter, Godwin David Ani, Obiora Chinyere, Mrs. Chinyere Kalu, Ndukwe Agbai, Victor Mba, Daniel Onuorah, Ngozi Chileke and Friday Ukaegbu, were extremely happy and assured that with their raw talent sharpened by Hon. Ossy Prestige initiative, they are equipped to face the present Nigeria challenges of hunger, unemployment, self actualization and realization above all to be employers of labour.
