As the saying goes “an apple does not fall too far from a tree”, Jessica Bongos-Ikwue, the Daughter of the legendary Nigerian singer, Bongos Ikwue, and a star in her own right has just released her debut 12-track album titled, “Broken To Peace”.

Does anyone remember these songs: “Cockcrow At Dawn, Still Searching, Amen, Otachikpokpo.” If you were around in the 60s, 70s and 80’s, you would definitely know who Bongos Ikwue is. The man headed the Groovies band, which was about the most popular in the 1970’s through to the 80’s.

Jessica’s sound can be described as Neo Pop Soul. Her unique, raspy, sultry vocals are intriguing to listen to and blend well with her stories of love and heartbreak.

She has released two singles from the album titled “Macho Man” and “Simple Times”.

“Broken to Peace” was released on October 31st and available on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon Music, Boomplay and other digital platforms.

All the tracks on the album were produced and mixed by Atta Lenell Otigba except for track 1 which was produced by Tay Iwar. The album was mastered by Tay Iwar.

About Jessica Bongos-Ikwue

Jessica Bongos is an Abuja based, independent artist from Otukpo, Benue State; born on July 15th, 1983 in Lagos State, Nigeria.

She acquired a Bachelor’s degree in International Development and a Masters in Leisure events and facilities management.Jessica officially started singing with her father, Bongos Ikwue in 2006, recording backing vocals on a few of his songs.

She decided to step out on her own as a solo singer in 2013 when she released her debut single titled “You left me”.

Her musical influences stem from a vast variety of genres such as old school Motown, soul, r’n’b, jazz, gospel, alternative and country music. Her biggest musical influences are Jill Scott, Lauryn Hill, Nina Simone, Sade Adu, Dolly Parton, Stevie Wonder and Bongos Ikwue.In July 2014, she released her debut 5 song EP titled “UNSCATHED” produced by Atta Lenell.

In December 2015, Jessica Bongos was placed on the Spinlet sound of 2016 list alongside 19 other Nigerian Artists including Kiss Daniel, Adekunle Gold and Tekno. All her other music can be found on her official website
